Bedroom Walls 8/04/07 - Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA. (Part Three)

(Final post in a series of three.)

In this last post, we take a look at this Spaceland show, which coincidentally happened to be one of Bedroom Walls' last in this incarnation. (edited to add: maybe?) It was part of a good Saturday night line-up with Radars To The Sky, Rademacher, and Death To Anders (and if anyone asks, no I didn't record them that night - though, this will hopefully change in the future)

This was a nice little set that turned out pretty well. One noteable feature is a seemingly rare acoustic duet between Adam and Melissa on "In Anticipation Of Your Suicide" - definitely worth the download.

Bedroom Walls 11/06/06 - Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA. (Part Two)

(Part Two in a series of three)

Continuing on, this Bedroom Walls show was an opener for the first show of Let's Go Sailing's November 2006 Monday residency. As anyone who's been to Spaceland's free show nights can attest, they usually draw a big crowd, and people tend to chatter/drink more. Well, I suppose it's fair to say they do during shows with a cover charge as well, but I've seen through my own unscientific research that people tend to shut up and pay more attention to the music when they've actually had to spend money on it. But that's just me.

So, this show had some more background chatter than I would have liked, but after listening to it recently, I don't think it's that bad. One can argue that it adds to the atmosphere of the recording, really showing the perspective of the audience of the show. Still, pretty good set.

(again, if anyone can identify tracks 4 and 8, drop me a line. thanks.)

Bedroom Walls 4/26/06 - Tangier, Los Angeles, CA. (Part One)

(Part one in a series of three)

Bedroom Walls today may or may not be playing as another band, who may or may not have recently released their first record. To celebrate this, I will be taking a look back at some older shows of theirs.*

I first heard of Bedroom Walls sometime in 2005, online. My first thought was that I liked the name, which could be construed as superficial, I suppose. But I did like the music, which has been described as part of the "romanticore" genre, though "indie-shoegaze-pop" could apply as well.

I didn't get to see Bedroom Walls until this show in 2006, at the now departed Tangier Restaurant and Lounge. This was announced as a kind of a "secret, last-minute" show - the crowd was small, but the sound is good. However, I apologize for not knowing the names of tracks 2 and 7 - if anyone knows them, drop me a line, thanks.

(Note: When "The Idiot" song was played live, it was called "Everybody Here Thinks It's Ridiculous"; later it was posted on myspace as "The Idiot." Unless notified otherwise, I'm going with the latter title at the present time.)

The Rosebuds 6/16/07 - Spaceland, Los Angeles, CA.

Let's start off with one from the archives (and my favorite new band of that year) - The Rosebuds 6/16/07 at Spaceland on their tour for "Night Of The Furies."

I discovered The Rosebuds in a rather curious way, through the Bedroom Walls page on last.fm. I started with their most recent (at the time) release "Night Of The Furies" and quickly fell in love with their unique brand of indie pop. After that, I went on a mission to gather all the material of theirs I could find, and when they toured that year hit up both the L.A. and Pomona (to be posted at a later date) shows.

This show was the stronger of the two I think, and probably a typical Saturday night at Spaceland (big crowd, some people being brought on stage to dance/sing, etc.)
