Last Friday, C-horse performed at Casey's Irish Pub in downtown Los Angeles. This was the third night of their month-long Friday night residency at the aforementioned venue. While this is our first time featuring C-horse here, we have done a couple of posts on The Karabal Nightlife, a now-departed band that C-horse members Lindsay Mancha and Courtney Olsen were once a part of. Described as "creat[ing] three-minute slices of candy-coated edginess, more prickly live than on their debut album," their music is also described as "laced with intricate vocal harmonies and packed with a powerful pop sensibility." Closing out with a cover of The Buzzcock's "Everybody's Happy Nowadays," it was a pretty good sounding show.

Foxtail's Brigade 2/13/10 - Echo Curio, Los Angeles, CA.

Last Saturday, Foxtail's Brigade played at Echo Curio as part of a line-up that included the previously-posted The Karabal Nightlife, Devotionals, and Mark Growden. We are no strangers to Laura Weinbach's music, having posted a show of hers from 2007 back in June. Since then, she has been performing under the moniker "Foxtail's Brigade" (whom we actually caught a partial show of theirs at the 2007 edition of the Eagle Rock Music Festival)

A few days before this show, Ms. Weinbach sent out an email stating that original Foxtail's member/violinist Sivan Sadeh was no longer part of the band, and that she had been "playing a lot on the street." (the latter of which was mentioned during the show) Setlist was mostly composed of newer material, including the previously performed "Sous le Ciel de Paris" and a timely version of "My Funny Valentine" (this being a pre-Valentine's Day show after all)

The Karabal Nightlife 2/13/10 - Echo Curio, Los Angeles, CA.

Last weekend, The Karabal Nightlife performed at the Echo Curio as part of a line-up that included Foxtail's Brigade and Devotionals. This night was a first for the band, who proclaimed that "this was their first acoustic show." We at Recording LA are no strangers to The Karabal Nightlife, having posted their Halloween covers set as T-Rex at The Echo last year.

As mentioned previously, this was The Karabal Nightlife's first acoustic show. The setlist seems to have been composed of newer material. Of interest was a cover of a(and perennial Recording LA favorites) Agent Ribbons song "Call Me Margaret." A good show and interesting new way of looking at their music.

The Karabal Nightlife 10/27/09 - The Echo, Los Angeles, CA. (all T-Rex cover set)

Last week, The Karabal Nightlife performed a set of cover songs by T-Rex at The Echo, as part of a night featuring four different Los Angeles-based bands performing as different classic rock bands. Not being familiar with T-Rex's music, I didn't really know what to expect. However, I had heard of The Karabal Nightlife before, and was curious to see them play (even if it wasn't their own material)

As mentioned previous, while I wasn't familiar with the songs being covered, this set was a good way to kick off the evening. As said at Radio Free Silverlake, the band did "a scary and accurate resurrection of the popular glam rockers" even though "Marc Bolan (lead singer)...had been dead for over 30 years." "The audience ate it up and enthusiastically urged the band on." Short, but fun set.
